Missy Leonardson of Whitelaw administers 5 milliliters of vancomycin-heparin flush via the central line to her 16-month-old daughter, Dani, on a recent night in the living room of their Whitelaw home. For a couple of weeks, the procedure was done each night as part of antibiotic treatments to fight off an infection that developed in the central line.
